The 2021 mock case concerned a dispute over the construction of a renewable energy plant, involving issues like delays in the construction, scope of the works, and damages discussions related to the calculation of penalties, price adjustment, and discounted cash flow. Students had to cross-examine the commercial managers that negotiated the contract, the chiefs of operations that supervised and oversaw the works, and experts on damages.
The case was prepared by the Permanent Court of Arbitration
(Martin Doe, Julian Bordaçahar, Juan Ignacio Massun, Pía Ruggieri, and Danielle Gonzalez) and Compass Lexecon (Carla Chavich, Andres Barrera, Jack Ghaleb, Stephen Hurley).
Over 200 students and coaches, from almost 40 teams, representing more than 20 nationalities, participated in over 70 hearings from all corners of the world.
